8/24

so here we are with 8 weeks left of training and i have hit my first major hiccup. i have pushed my limit to just over 12 miles about a week or so ago and had some knee pain the day after. i continued to run even though it wasn't feeling great and swelling up a bit. i finally had to shut it down for a few days as it was getting unbearable. i spoke to a friends friend, who is physical therapist and she sees it as a stage 1 or stage 2 sprain of the knee. her suggestion.........."rest and ice", two words i didn't want to here during the home stretch of training. i have been resting for two days and it feels much better, so i will continue to rest for another 5 days, with icing session, and we will see what happens. i can only trust the words of a professional, instead of my instincts, which is to continue to run and power through.......in need of positive thoughts and vibes, lets hope for the best.

i will keep you posted.

my first official post!!!

i first wanted to thank everyone who has had a hand in developing this site, as it couldn't have happened without you, i am very grateful for technology, just not always the best at it. i also wanted to thank all of you for following up to this point and the continued generosity of all, i am very appreciative, i know katie and family are, and absolutely know that shawn is as well, as he continues to watch from above.

i would first like to thank my wonderful family for their support, this could not happen without you. first and foremost my unbelievable tamara, as she continues to support, my crazy work life and crazy training program, "whilst" (our favorite word) raising our two beautiful children, and not getting the proper support that she undoubtably deserves. baby you have plenty coming your way, and you deserve every drop of it. layla jade and charlie (our two babies) who inspire me every second im alive. my mom who bought me my first pair of proper training shoes, my father who continues to drive me by sending running info, magazine articles, blogs, etc. and reigning me in when i get a little down. jerry and seth (accomplished runners) who help keep my mind at ease when training seems not to be going the greatest. katie who continues to fight on after losing the toughest battle i hope none of us ever have to fight. charlie mae who i see everyday when i look into my little girl, layla jade's eyes. everyone else i may have forgotten, i will continue to shout you guys out as i continue to do a better job of keeping the blog updated.

just to keep everyone up to date i have officially hit the 11 mile mark and training is coming along much better than i could have ever anticipated, a true testament to all of you and shawn who helps out a lot more than i could have ever imagined. i have a 13 mile and a 14 mile run upcoming and i will have you all on my mind. i hope to see many of you on october 9th, not for me, but to celebrate shawn.

love you all.
